Our Stories

Yerevan, Armenia - December 2006 — IRD Armenia has been helping the children in Nursery School # 276 in Yerevan since early 2005. In the beginning the school was in dreadful condition – crumbling walls, dirty floors, broken windows, unusable toilets.

IRD had a small grant and in-kind contributions to  provide powdered milk and household materials such as fabrics, bed linens, and curtains to the children through in-kind contributions. Once Nursery School #276 was repaired, the number of children who attended grew from 130 to 400. The visible impact of the project, and others like it across Armenia, encourages parents to send their children to school.

Recently, IRD Armenia staff attended a celebration at Nursery School #276. The children and their teachers made costumes and decorations from IRD fabrics, and the children had fortified milk as a snack. It was a treat for IRD Armenia staff to see small things bring such great pleasure.
