Nepal’s famed mountains are a spectacular backdrop for families living deep in poverty,  with an average annual income of only $270. A rebellion by Maoists in the late  1990s and early 2000s forced 100,000 people from their homes, and killed 12,000. With the signing of a peace treaty in 2006, people have been returning to their homes and trying to put their lives back together. IRD’s programs in Nepal are providing basic services and creating economic opportunities for these people.
