Education

IRD supports the whole-child approach to primary education, that is, “each child, in each school, in each community deserves to be healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.” Our programs encourage families to enroll their children in school, promote gender equity, and strengthen community participation in school management. They support improved retention and learning by training teachers and staff, developing culturally appropriate curriculums, and providing the latest learning technologies. To ensure children are ready to learn when in school, we implement school feeding and take-home ration programs, provide clothing and hygiene kits, implement health screening and deworming campaigns, and build school gardens. Children also need safe and sanitary places to learn. To that end, IRD is building and renovating schools and related infrastructure and sanitation systems.

By supporting the full range of children’s educational needs, IRD and its partners are ensuring that children will grow up to be healthy, engaged, and productive members of society.
