A Partnership to Improve Primary Education and Student Health in Cambodia
In Cambodia, IRD works to improve the quality of primary education and student enrollment and to improve nutritional status of children and women of reproductive age in Kampong Chhnang province. As Deputy Director of Health, over the past month, I was able to join Board Member Jane Okun Bomba as she conducted an oversight visit to our programs in Cambodia. It was very inspiring to see project activities and how it impacts lives of many children and families. more
Vaccination Campaign Helps Prevent Measles
The spread of communicable diseases has become a high risk factor in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, where the Syrian population has swelled to over 100,000 in recent months. IRD helped to get a total of 76,000 refugees vaccinated in April to prevent the spread of measles at Camp Zataari. more
The Renovation of St. Nicola Church, Kosovo
Though one of the world's youngest countries and with the youngest population in Europe, Kosovo is rich in archaeological and architectural heritage. However, Kosovo's heritage has been degraded by age, poor construction practices, pollution, and lack of preservation and restoration. Through IRD's Kosovo Cultural Heritage Program, we worked to restore the St. Nicola Church cultural heritage site; program staff made a video charting the progress of the work. more
Jordanian Community Offers Guests Tour of New School
As Jasna Basaric-Keys stepped out of her car at the inauguration of the Khawla Bint Al-Azwar Basic Co School in Mashare, she received a special welcome from students. The school is one of eight built by IRD as part of the Jordan Schools Project (JSP), and is supported by community, parent, and student coalitions (CPSC) established under the Community Partnerships for Mobilization in Schools (CMP) program. Basaric-Keys was joined by USAID Mission Director Beth Paige and Secretary General at the Ministry of Education Sattam Awad for a tour of the new facility. more
IRD Promotes Food Security and Nutrition in Mali
At an IRD event in Bamako, Mali, U.S. Ambassador to Mali Mary Beth Leonard stressed the important role of women in food security and poverty alleviation and reiterated the U.S. commitment to support programs for food security in Mali. IRD’s Mali Country Director added that “IRD looks forward to continuing our work with producers and processors in Mali, providing business training to ensure that their efforts result in increased income for their families.” more
